Description

This is a very popular 14ct Gold Plated Sterling silver double sided round disc necklace engraved with Ogham on one side and the letter in old Irish writing on the other.

Ogham is an Early Medieval alphabet used by the Ancient Irish for over a 1000 years. There are roughly 400 surviving orthodox inscriptions on stone monuments throughout Ireland. Each letter is represented by a series of parallel lines across a central “stem.
There is a picture of a Ogham Stone from St. Declan’s Monastery, which contains the remains of Ardmore Cathedral, is a former monastery and National Monument located in County Waterford, Ireland.

This script was used throughout Ireland from the 16th century and comes from the Latin alphabet. Irish monks used this Latin script, that original came from copying Latin religious scripture, to express the Irish language.
